Thaipusam — Short Home Observance

Thaipusam marks the day Parvati gave Murugan the Vel (spear) to defeat Surapadman, and celebrates his role as the remover of obstacles and burdens. Devotees fulfil vows by carrying kavadi or milk pots to his temples (Palani, Batu Caves, Singapore), offering their burdens to him.
