Vaikuntha Ekadashi is believed to be the day the gates of Vishnu's abode, Vaikuntha, stand open. Vishnu temples in the South open a special northern door — the Vaikuntha Dwaram — through which devotees walk for darshan, a symbol of passing from worldly life to liberation.
